My name is Rebecca McKernan and I was born and raised in the mountains of southwestern Virginia. I moved to North Carolina after graduating from Virginia Tech with a degree in Communication—Go Hokies! I live in Huntersville with my amazing family; we have two wonderful daughters, and two very weird but loving cats. In my free time, I am happiest camping, hiking and spending time outside surrounded by nature. I love to cook and enjoy creating all types of art, from painting to photography.
After starting a career writing proposals for the Department of Defense, I fell in love with teaching while volunteering at Central Piedmont Community College and haven’t looked back since! Over the last ten years, I have taught a variety of grade levels and subjects with a focus on math and science. I have a passion for helping students understand math as I believe it is a universal language we can all understand with attentive and detailed instruction. I am very excited to be at Lakeside Charter Academy and look forward to learning and growing with my colleagues and students.
