V. Shanita Powell

V. Shanita Powell is an accomplished instructional leader and mathematics educator with extensive experience leading grade-level teams, supporting curriculum development, and advancing schoolwide academic initiatives. She currently serves as a Middle School Math/ Social Studies Teacher and Middle School Grade Level Chair at Lakeside Charter Academy, where she also leads the Schoolwide Math Team and serves on the School Improvement Team. In these roles, Ms. Powell collaborates with administrators and colleagues to strengthen instructional practices, align curriculum, and improve student outcomes in mathematics.

With over two decades of experience in public, charter, and alternative education environments, Ms. Powell brings a comprehensive understanding of school operations, teacher development, and student-centered instruction. She has led initiatives in STEM education, GED preparation, and college readiness, and has experience coaching educators to deliver engaging, high-impact instruction.

Her leadership extends beyond academics through her service as an athletic coach and mentor, reinforcing teamwork, discipline, and student engagement.

Ms. Powell holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Computer and Information Science and Aviation Science from Elizabeth City State University. She is recognized for integrating technology, data-driven decision-making, and innovative instructional strategies to support continuous school improvement.

Ms. Powell is deeply committed to cultivating collaborative learning communities, developing teacher leadership, and ensuring equitable access to high-quality mathematics instruction for all students.
